Owned and operated by the Flint River Council, the Gerald I. Lawhorn Scouting Base is a 2.400 acre facility that is divided into three program areas, the Flint River Area, Pine Mountain Back Country, and the Camp Thunder Area .
Located just 11/2 hours south of Atlanta in the Pine Mountain range, it has three lakes and three miles of river front on the scenic Flint River. The Still Branch Reservoir is available for sailing excursions just seven miles away.
Several area colleges use our facilities for their college classes and the camp is open year round for church, civic, sports, and business groups for training, team building, conferences, and just fun outdoor activities. We offer everything from high adventure activities such as climbing and rappelling, to more relaxing hiking and canoe trips. Leaders who have been here before will tell you there is never a shortage of activities available!
The Gerald I. Lawhorn Scouting Base exists to provide adventure and fun in a safe environment for both the youth of today and the wildlife of tomorrow. That's why each member of our staff has been carefully selected and trained to assist in your stay and are ready to help you at any time. As we continue to grow, adjust, expand, and develop our camp, our programs are updated and revised.
What's happening at Camp? 2010 is shaping up to be a very busy year at the Lawhorn Scouting Base. We have a lot going on, and a lot to be proud of! Click here for more information.
