    Spotlight On:

    Service Above Self

Just before the Thanksgiving Holiday, District Program Chair Sherry Redman posted that Helping In His Name Food Pantry was out of food.

Tussahaw Packs and Troops immediately mobilized. In less than one week, nearly 500 items of food and 50 blankets were collected by Packs 99, 264, and 346, and Troops 65 and 264, with more Packs and Troops later joining the cause!

Tim Standard, Cubmaster of Pack 99, said, "After seeing the post from Sherry that Helping In His Name Pantry was in need, I put out an email blast to all my families. Within 5 days, the boys of Pack 99 responded by bringing in over 300 items to donate. Great job, Scouts! Also, great job to our Webelos Den 7 that did their own service project and collected 50 blankets to give to those in need!"

"It just goes to show you that what we teach our Scouts truly makes a difference in the lives of those who live in our communities, despite the fat that those who benefit have no direct relationship to Scouting. Service above self is a pillar upon which the Scouting program is founded. Tussahaw District validated what it means to be a Scout" - Jason Setser, District Executive, Tussahaw District.

     Troop 38 Honors Veterans

Troop 38 was invited by Aldora United Methodist Church to attend services on Veterans Day on November 11, 2012. Participating in the service, the Troop honored Veterans by presenting their Troop colors, the Georgia State flag and the United States Flag. Following this service, members of the troop repeated the same ceremony at Ebenezer United Methodist Church.

Thank you to all of our Scouts for making a difference in our community! The Flint River Council is proud of you showing what it means to be a Scout!
